Handling the pen or vial
Once you start using it: the in-use window is 56 days after first use (pen) / 28 days (prefilled syringe). Mark the date you first used it (on the device or your calendar) so you know exactly when to discard it — the label requires discarding after this window even if medicine remains.
Keep the pen or vial in its original carton whenever possible — this is what protects it from light, and doubles as a place to note the first-use date. Never store a pen with the needle attached between uses.
Traveling with Ozempic
A new, unused pen needs refrigeration; once you start using it, it can travel at room temperature for up to 56 days — just keep the cap on when it's not in use and out of direct heat and light. Write the first-use date on the pen or your calendar so you know when the 56-day clock runs out.
