Handling the pen or vial

Once you start using it: the in-use window is 30 days after first use. Mark the date you first used it (on the device or your calendar) so you know exactly when to discard it — the label requires discarding after this window even if medicine remains.

Keep the pen or vial in its original carton whenever possible — this is what protects it from light, and doubles as a place to note the first-use date. Never store a pen with the needle attached between uses.

Traveling with Saxenda

A new, unused SAXENDA pen must stay refrigerated; once you start using it, it's good for 30 days at room temperature — mark the first-use date so you throw it away on time, even if medicine remains in the pen.
